Lars Rebien Sørensen
Lars Rebien Sørensen has been President and CEO of Novo Nordisk since 2000.
He joined Novo Nordisk in 1982, beginning his career with the company in enzyme marketing. He was later appointed as a member of corporate management, and was given the special responsibility in corporate management for health care in 1994. He plans to step down as CEO in early 2017.
In 2016, for the second year running, Sørensen topped the Harvard Business Review ranking of the “best performing” CEOs in the world. He and his fellow CEOs were judged on a variety of financial, environmental, social, and governance metrics.
Sørensen is a member of the Board of Scandinavian Airlines System AB and ZymoGenetics, Inc. A Danish national, he obtained his Master’s degree in forestry from The Royal Veterinary and Agricultural University in Denmark in 1981, and a BSc in International Economics from the Copenhagen Business School in 1983.
